I am a native Kansan who has drawn and painted since childhood. I studied art and psychology for my bachelor's degree, returned to school for a certificate in substance abuse counseling, and earned a master of science in art therapy. I have worked as a substance abuse counselor, program director, and art therapist for over twenty years and have been on the faculty of the graduate art therapy program at Emporia State University since 2002. In addition, I teach an undergraduate introductory course on art therapy at Washburn University.
In 2009 I was appointed to the Board of Directors of the national Art Therapy Credentials Board after having served on its Certification Committee for five years. In 2010, I was elected by fellow credential-holders nationwide to another term as a Director on the Board. In 2011, I was elected Secretary of the Board, and in summer 2012 was re-elected to another term as a Director.
I opened Art & Insight, my creativity studio and private practice in art therapy, in October 2005. I have been involved with the process of SoulCollage® since 2003 and became a trained facilitator in 2010. In April 2011, I moved from my original location at 4824 Quail Crest Place to my light-filled current location. In June 2011 Kansas began licensing addiction counselors and I received my Clinical Addiction Counselor license.
