A Day of SoulCollage®

About the process. . .

SoulCollage® is a creative process for personal exploration, enrichment, and enjoyment that was developed by therapist and artist Seena Frost and described in her books, SoulCollage® and SoulCollage® Evolving. The process involves making your own deck of large collaged cards on 5” x 8” pieces of mat board, using images from magazines and sometimes, copies of personal photographs. If desired, your finished cards can be used for self-exploration and insight, through journaling or “readings,” alone or in groups. The wonderful thing about SoulCollage® is that your cards are uniquely tailored to you and the people and beliefs that guide your life's journey.

Creating SoulCollage® cards is a fun and satisfying activity that can be done by anyone, whether or not they believe they have artistic ability.  Each card reflects an aspect of yourself, or represents a person or being who is important to your life.  Cards usually fit into one of four suits: 1) your personality parts; 2) persons/animals/groups who are important to you; 3) physical/animal energies; 4) archetypes that are important to you. At the workshop, you will be given information to further understand the four suits and sample ideas for cards you will want to make. You are also free to delete or add suits as you make your own deck, so that it is meaningful for you.

Your SoulCollage® deck is the story of you. As Seena Frost has put it, “It is a tangible way to know yourself in your diversity and depth, and also to show yourself to others. You will love your deck. . . whether it consists of three cards or a hundred.” The process of creating cards and adding to your deck becomes a fun and fulfilling ongoing practice. I have been making cards for about seven years, and in 2010 I attended an 18-hour training by Seena Frost in California to become a SoulCollage® Facilitator.

About the workshop. . .

     Persons new to
SoulCollage® as well as those who are already involved with it are welcome to attend this workshop. It will take place from 10:00 to 4:00 with both informative and hands-on segments. Those who wish will also be guided through a “reading.” The fee is $50, which includes all materials; persons who have attended a previous SoulCollage® workshop at A&I receive a $10 discount. The book SoulCollage® Evolving and additional blank mat cards to take home will be available for purchase.

From approximately 12:00 until 1:00 we will break for lunch. You may go off-site for lunch on your own, or bring a brown bag and begin working on cards during the lunch hour.  No information will be given during the lunch hour that those who leave would miss. Coffee, a variety of teas, and bottled water will be available, as well as a microwave.

This workshop will be limited to eight persons. Please contact me (Libby) to reserve a space, or for more questions about the process or workshop content, at 785-840-5280 or
info@artandinsight.com  You can also visit the SoulCollage® website for more information about the process and to view lots of sample cards: www.soulcollage.com

SoulCollage® Facilitator Training
Coming to KC area!
October 7-9, 2011
Register before August 15 for early bird rate!

Persons who are interested in becoming a trained
SoulCollage® Facilitator have a rare and exciting opportunity this fall.  A weekend retreat-style training experience will be conducted by SoulCollage® Trainer Audrey Chowdhury and take place at the Heartland Center in North Kansas City, October 7-9, 2011.

This training is identical to the one provided by
SoulCollage® developer Seena Frost at her California location. Seena has specially trained Audrey and a handful of others to provide Facilitator training opportunities at varying locations. The training is open to any interested person.

The training will provide in-depth information about the SoulCollage
® process, ideas for providing your own gatherings or working professionally with different kinds of groups, lots of resources, ongoing benefits such as discounts on books and other SoulCollage® materials, and hands-on experience making cards and doing readings. Fee reductions are available if you register prior to August 15, or if you want to commute rather than stay at the retreat center.  For interested therapists, the training provides 18 CECs (approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences) at no additional cost.

In addition to the more tangible benefits, the
SoulCollage® Facilitator training will be an inspiring and unforgettable personal experience for all who attend.  I've had dinner with Audrey and been her email friend (she is from Wisconsin, and also a board-certified art therapist) and she has asked me to assist her at the training. I am very excited and know that this will be a wonderful weekend!  I hope to see you there!

Details and training registration may be found through this link to Audrey's website:

Cabins at Heartland Retreat Center
The Heartland Center was also the site for the annual symposium of the Kansas Art Therapy Association earlier this year. It is a lovely, peaceful place, located south of KCI and north of the river in a beautiful wooded area. (The food was good too!)
